Faculty Member’s Work Goes Nationwide

Graphic Design Instructor Jana Perez’s work (three images) will be on tour nationwide for an entire year (2005-2006) as a part of the ReFresh Print Biennial exhibition.

This is the inaugural year for the exhibition which includes 33 selected artists. These artists were chosen from 135 artist entries. The Lawton Gallery at The University of Wisconsin at Green Bay has also selected one of Perez’s images for the front cover of the exhibition’s postcard which will be mailed nationwide!

HP and The Art Institutes Student Poster Contest Winners Announced

Brian Smith, an Interactive Media Design student at The Art Institute of Dallas, was selected as the local winner for the HP and Ther Art Institutes Student Poster Competition. Brian will receive an HP Digital camera. Additional kudos to Patel Anjali who’s design was selected for an honorable mention.

Student designers were required to illustrate the concept “Engineered for Innovators” and had to follow strict guidelines to be eligible for the competition.

Nearly 50 submissions were entered into the contest by Art Institute students from around the United States. Smith is not new to the world of student competition. He was the first place winner in the multi-media category of the 2004 High School Scholarship Competition hosted by The Art Institute of Dallas.

I hope that creative companies such as HP would continue to provide similar incentive opportunities that give exposure to students pursuing a creative career,” says Smith, “It’s a great opportunity to tone one’s skills to a professional level and to develop a creation based on a marketing concept.”

Junior Hot Food Team Wins 1st Place

Under the leadership of Team Coach Chef Steven Pilat and Team Captain/culinary student Jason Wade, The Art Institute of Dallas’ Junior Hot Food Team took first place at the ACF Regional Conference in February 2005.

Extra kudos to culinary team members Parker McCann, David Hairgrove, Rachel Frank and Trevor Endtricht. The team will go on to the Central Regional Competition coming up in April 2005 in Michigan.

The Art Institute of Dallas has 17 Entry Winners in The Texas 2Show; 5 Win Awards

Seventeen students from The Art Institute of Dallas were entry winners in The Texas 2Show, a juried student design competition for students of accredited 2-year colleges and schools across the State of Texas. School winners included current students as well as recent graduates. Of the seventeen student entries from The Art Institute of Dallas, five students won six out of the 13 competition awards.

AiDallas Student Multimedia Team Wins HP Competition

Aaron Stahl, Blak Elshire, Gabriel Robinson are winners of the national HP and The Art Institutes Student Multimedia Competition.

The three winners will receive a trip to NAB in Las Vegas where they will present their winning work in the HP booth. They will each receive a digital camera from HP. Special thanks also goes out to faculty members Andy Brooks and Chad Hardy for providing the students with great guidance!

Chef Instructor Receives Culinary Executive Chef Certification

Brenden Mesch, culinary chef instructor, is the latest chef instructor to be certified as a Culinary Executive Chef (CEC) by the American Culinary Federation (ACF). The Art Institute of Dallas sends its warmest congratulations out to Chef Mesch who will hereafter be known as Chef Mesch, CEC.

Fashion Design Faculty Member and 12 Lucky Students Win Trip To Paris and London

Fashion Design faculty member Donna Sapp, is the winner of the EF Poster Contest.

EF is happy to pick up the tab for our Donna and 12 lucky travelers to explore Paris and London, two of Europe’s most fashion-conscious cities.

“I am so very excited to have won this trip. It is such an unexpected treat!
My students are working on their degrees in Fashion Design. What an opportunity for them to visit two leading areas in the fashion world! Selecting the lucky 12 that get to travel on this adventure will not be an easy task. We intend to hold a competition for our students, which will include elements of research and garment design based on an historical personality from England or France. Those selected will accompany me and our departmental lead instructor on the trip!” says Sapp.

Graphic Design Student Wins Third Place At National Horse Show

Vanessa Sanoja jumped to third place at a stakes race held at the 2004 National Horse Show in December riding Cevin Z, a jumper that she owns and trains. The Graphic Design major took ninth place overall in the Adult Amateur Jumper Championship, competing against the top amateurs from all over the country. Sanoja, a first-time rider in the Nationals, is ranked the number one show jumper in National Zone 7, which includes Texas.

“Preparing for the National Horse Show, I rode the morning and studied at night,” mentioned Sanoja at the time of her win, “with the Show over I’m going back to my projects and the books.”
